Annual Thanksgiving Baskets Day of Service

November 2022

20 Pearls Foundation, Inc. is happy to announce our annual Thanksgiving Basket Drive in conjunction with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Theta Theta Omega Chapter.  This project started over 30 years ago and has impacted over 1500 families in the Greater Las Vegas Area. As our membership has grown, we have expanded this service project from serving 50 families to over 200 families in 2021.  Our goal is to serve 250 families.  You can help us reach our goal by donating generously.  Click on the donation button below to help a hungry family have a blessed Thanksgiving.  Thank you!

This years goal of the annual day of service was to provide Thanksgiving Dinner to 250 food challenged families.  The target demographic was grandparents raising grandchildren and kin caregivers. The event was held at Doolittle Community Senior Center and Clark County Foster Kinship Center.

The ongoing pandemic has required us to redesign the execution of our signature project and instead of personally assembling and distributing actual Thanksgiving baskets, we distributed turkeys and grocery store gift cards in the amount of $50.00 via a contactless drive-thru distribution process.

Recipient families “popped their trunks” and received their turkey and gift card from Sorority members and volunteering community partners. This year, we partnered with Las Vegas City Councilman Cedric Crear and the Las Vegas Chapter of 100 Black Men for the turkeys and held a virtual fundraiser to obtain the funds necessary to purchase 250 $50.00 grocery store gift cards.  Country Financial also donated 2 sets of hockey tickets for the Las Vegas Golden Knights to help reach our goal.  Several other partnering organizations contributed to the event.

Keeping in accordance with our organization's In-Person Activity mandate required us to service the two groups at two separate locations. We collaborated with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Fire Prep and Leadership Academy to assist with “the heavy lifting.” In addition to assisting with the set-up and breakdown, these volunteering partners also helped direct traffic and distribute the turkeys into the trunks of the recipient families. The event was a total success at each of the locations. We serviced a total of 210 families and 863 individuals.  We adapted and overcame the obstacle presented by the pandemic and continued to provide Thanksgiving dinner assistance to these needy families.
